Dog Yard Care: How To Keep Your Lawn Grass Lush

You have a new love. It is your dog. Your home lifestyle will need to be slightly adjusted to fit the needs of your dog.

As a dog owner, you will notice your dog has a liking for one particular area of your home – the yard. You can keep your dog happy and your lawn looking great by learning how to protect your lawn and your dog from harm.

Why does your dog love the yard?

Your dog enjoys the yard because he/she can run, play, relax and relieve his or her self.

All these dog actions can be damaging to your yard. For example, dog urine can create brown spots in your yard and make your grass grow faster, unruly because there’s salt in dog urine.

You can prevent dog damage to your lawn by mowing the lawn high and watering the grass regularly.

When you notice brown spots in your grass, you can resolve the issue by reseeding or patching the brown spots with sod or a salt neutralizing ingredient. To prevent lawn damage, the best option is to lay down mulch in a designated area of your yard and train your dog to potty only in that location. You may also want to consider installing a pee post to promote your dog to urinate in the designated area.

When applying any type of lawn product on your grass, keep your dog away from the area until the lawn products are activated.

To keep your lawn green/lush go for stronger grass that can handle dog urine and canine foot traffic. An example of strong grass is tall fescue grass. This grass is drought resistant and other grasses can be added to it such as Rye grass and Bermuda grass.

You may want to install a sprinkler system in the yard as well to minimize the damage dog urine can do to the yard.

Another great tactic to prevent lawn damage is to keep your dog hydrated. When your dog has multiple water containers throughout the yard, you’ll have a better grasp over decreasing urine concentration.

Also you may want to consider purchasing dog-dietary supplements bind with nitrogen to reduce the harmfulness of dog urine.
